Mama, Teach
(Hludzik/Manwiller/Lorance)
Some streets are filled with fame and fortune,
While others promise misery and pain,
For some a life of luxury and comfort,
For some an endless treadmill of the same,
Their lips are dry, they thirst, they need some water,
Lift this blade that cuts the heart,
And makes them bleed,
Mama...teach your children,
Not to do as some have done, live and die by the gun,
Father..cherish their future,
Teach them what they need to know, hold the hand then let it go,
It’s not the cure, but intervention,
It’s not enough to simply stop the pain,
You always have the power of prevention,
Invested time turns loss into a gain,
Their lips are dry, they thirst, they need some water,
Lift this blade that cuts the heart, and makes them bleed,
Mama...teach your children,
Not to do as some have done, live and die by the gun,
Father...cherish their future,
Teach them what they need to know, hold the hand then let it go,
It’s time, let go, you’ve done as much as you can do,
Just look at what a prize they have become,
And to know, a part of them will always be,
The greatest gift a man could ever see,
Yeah, yeah, yeah...
It’s gone from bad to worse, where is the water?
Lift this blade that cuts the heart,
And makes them bleed,
Mama...teach your children,
Not to do as some have done, live and die by the gun,
Father...cherish their future,
Teach them what they need to know, hold the hand then let it go,
Mama...teach your children...
